So many sockeye! Dam provides window into record run of salmon

WENATCHEE — Eleven-year-old Alana Riedel watched a salmon that was just about her size swim past Rocky Reach Dam’s fish-viewing window Wednesday afternoon.

“Look! It’s huge!” said the young visitor from Orting. “That is so very, very cool. Do you think we can feed them?”

Well, maybe. But you’d need about 250,000 packets of single-serving fish flakes to feed the record run of sockeye now making its way upriver past Rocky Reach Dam.
